30th November, 2009. 9:42 pm. Dear techie WoWLadies (and perhaps WoWGents):
In addition to getting utterly rejected 4 days after my birthday and this being, in all other ways, utterly the WORST time of year, life has decided to fuck me over in yet another way by making it so that I'm not only unable to RAID, I'm also unable to even LOG INTO WARCRAFT.
At first, I was just disconnecting during boss fights. No biggie, I'd tell them to let me die, I'd log back in, I'd watch them take the boss down. Then I wouldn't be able to log back on at all while the boss was alive.
We thought it was the router. It was a piece of shit anyway and always had a tendency to lock my computer out, moreso if there's more than one machine on the network (as of October, there was). I got sick of resetting it and just bought a new one that was from a more reliable brand.
Set it up. Worked fine for... a day. Then I couldn't log on IM programs or use browsers, much less log on WoW. Techie friend suggested "oh, it's probably an issue with ports."
Tried that. Got the network up and running (though I'm not sure if it was because I was plugging in ports for programs or because my father used HIS laptop to connect to the internet through the router; either way, everything worked fine after that).
Logged into WoW. Did my JC daily. Was about to head off to run another few dailies when...disconnected. In the middle of Dalaran. No way to log back on. Ports didn't seem to fix it.
I'm out of ideas. My father is out of ideas. My techie friend who suggested messing with ports has concluded that my router is a piece of crap. Moving the modem up here (from the basement) and plugging directly into that isn't possible; I have no cable connectivity in my room.
If anyone here has any ideas, please, please PLEASE tell me. Otherwise, I'm left to asking my techie friend who gave me a lovely "return to sender" notice 4 days after my birthday.
Current mood: discontent.

30th November, 2009. 3:47 pm. Warrior macro help
I need help with a macro for my fury warrior. I just got titangrip so the macro I had originaly to take off his off hand and put on a shield and go into defensive stance, then back out is useless now. A guildie told me to make equipmanager slots and macro it to do that. Like-
/euipslot tank /cast defensive stance
And then make a seperate macro for the equipslot dps. Except the second macro wont work, and id like the entire thing to be in one macro any ideas? A macro to take off my two handers, put on my one hander/shield go in defensive stance then when I click it again put the two handers back on.

30th November, 2009. 2:35 pm. Feminist Gaming Blog "The Border House"
(Mods: Hopefully this is okay to post here - I didn't just join this community to post the link. I've been a member for a long time and love it here!)
Hey ladies! Myself and a pair of other female gamers started up a blog called "The Border House" that aims to be a friendly place for women, disabled gamers, people of color, LGBT folks, and any other marginalized group to read news and opinion on video games, MMOs, and virtual worlds. We just launched a couple of days ago and already have a lot of great posts, including some from members of wow_ladies such as tacky_tramp . </span>We currently have over 20 contributors!
From our About Page:
“The Border House” is a reference to Funcom’s point-and-click adventure game, The Longest Journey. The game deals with gay characters in a progressive and positive way, and the Border House is a fictional apartment within the game owned by a gay couple. The idea of living on the edge of a cultural border, of crossing and breaking borders – that’s what we are about here.
The Border House is a blog that celebrates diversity in gaming from a wide variety of cultural angles. We aim to be a friendly space for women, feminists, people of color, gay, lesbian, transgender individuals, those with disabilities, and any other marginalized group and their allies to read news and opinion on and discuss video games, MMORPGs, virtual worlds, and social media. Our goal is to provide up to date relevant news and opinion journalism without cultural bias and using a feminist lens.
I'm posting this here because I know there are a lot of feminist gamers here. Not only am I attempting to spread the word, we'd love to have another couple of bloggers who regularly play World of Warcraft (and other MMOs) to join us. If you're interested in writing for us, we have a page with contact information. Otherwise, feel free to add to your RSS readers and comment away! Check the blog out here.
Current mood: bouncy.
